A man in his 50s has been arrested after an elderly, vulnerable couple were burgled at their home in Laverstock.

Shortly after 11am yesterday (Wednesday 21st October), a man called at the address of a pair in their 90s, claiming they owed money.

He entered their home and, when the owner got his wallet out, he took a quantity of cash and made off in a car.

A vehicle description was given to officers and their search led them to the Downton area.

They then located the vehicle in Morgans Rise Road in Redlynch, and a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

An amount of cash was also seized.

The incident left the elderly couple feeling extremely distressed.

Det Sgt Anthony King said:

"Understandably, this incident has left this elderly couple feeling extremely distressed and vulnerable in their own home. This is unacceptable behaviour and they will be offered additional support from our Horizon Victim and Witness Care team.

Operation Fortitude has been set up to target offenders who prey on vulnerable people within our communities to commit crime and this is an example of the good work being carried out by officers. Our enquiries remain ongoing."

If anyone has any information on this incident they are being asked to call police on 101 and quote crime reference number 54200106013.
