A Southampton man has been jailed for six months after indecently exposing himself to dog walkers in Fordingbridge.

The 51-year-old admitted to a number of charges in relation to indecent exposures in the town.

Robert Wayne Oakley, of Lyon Street, Southampton, was found guilty of two counts of indecent exposure.

The incidents happened in January 2020 in close proximity to Frog Lane, Fordingbridge.

Southampton Crown Court heard on Monday 12th April 2021 – during a trial at Southampton Crown Court - how Oakley had been seen to expose his genitals to women as they walked alone in the semi-rural location.

Oakley was found guilty of these offences following a 3 day trial at Southampton Crown Court on 12 April and was handed a sentence of six months imprisonment on Tuesday 11 May. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and handed a five year restraining order.

Following the sentencing, PC Sarah Taylor of the Fordingbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“In imposing a custodial sentence, the court has acknowledged the severity of the offences, the impact on the victims and the community as a whole. I want to thank those who felt able to speak to police about the incidents, for coming forward and playing a vital role in securing the conviction.

“His actions placed the women in a situation where they felt frightened and disempowered. No one should be made to feel this way and we hope that this sentence provides some closure to the victims and the community.”
