Marcin Zdun has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife and teenage daughter at their home in Salisbury.

40 year old Aneta and 18 year old Nikoleta died with stab wounds at the property in Wessex Road on June 1st this year.

Zdun carried out the killings in a "jealous rage" after he believed the pair were having an affair with the same man from his work.

The judge told Zdun:

"Your method could not have been calculated to be more cruel to them. It's hardly surprising they have found it difficult to come to terms with the loss of their mother and sister.

They have understandably suffered nightmares. Because of what you did, they have also lost their father.

The main reason for your anger was your possessiveness and your feeling your control over your family was slipping away from you.

These feelings intensified after Aneta threw you out of the family home in April this year. You were jealous they were happy and you were not.''

There was a strong police presence around the Wessex Road area after the incident last June

He was not staying at the house at the time of the incident, but walked across the city to stab the pair with a folding lock knife.

Nearby workmen detained Zdun as he tried to flea the scene and held him until police arrived.

Officers then found the bloodied weapon in his pocket.

WATCH:

Police have released footage of the moment Zdun was arrested by officers:

Following the sentencing, Det Supt Darren Hannant said:

“Marcin Zdun carried out this awful, vicious, premeditated attack on his wife and daughter in broad daylight in front of witnesses and his two younger daughters.

I was never in no doubt that this was a deliberate killing of both women and that he was focused on this attack before he arrived at the family home that day. Zdun refused to speak about what happed when questioned and at no stage since his arrest shown any remorse for these horrible crimes.

This is a very unusual and extreme case of domestic abuse for which there were few warning signs. Aneta and Nikoleta were very close and had discussed their concerns about Zdun with each other but there was little knowledge of the abusive relationship outside of the family.

I'd like to thank the members of the public who immediately came to the help of the two victims and the family during that day, and to the witnesses who helped stop Zdun from leaving the scene. Also, I wish to thank the community for its support of our officers while we carried out our investigation."

"I WAS SO PROUD OF HER"

Aneta's parents both had a statement that was read out to the court.

Her mother, Bozena Stanczyk, said:

"June 1 was the day evil won, which caused the cruel death of the person closest to my heart.

I will never again get to talk to my wonderful, clever, smiling, warm and good daughter.

Nikoleta was the apple of my eye, I will never again see or hug my granddaughter.

On behalf of the family, I would like to thank the judiciary, the Police and all those involved in bringing the guilty party to court and ultimately justice."

Meanwhile, Andrzej Stanczyk, her father, said:

"She Aneta was clever, tough and capable, blood of my blood, she was my reflection, I was so proud of her.

Nikoleta, to me, was an exceptional person, she had her whole life ahead of her.''
