Canon Gary Philbrick from Avon Valley Churches recently blessed the new bus stop at Breamore village on the edge of the the New Forest in Hampshire.

The bus stop needed to be rebuilt after a lorry driver crashed into it, as well as the adjacent house of Paul and Gaynor Hammond in 2018.

The driver had suffered a medical episode and veered into the shelter, destroying it and much of the house behind it. No-one apart from the driver was seriously hurt but it was a terrifying incident for the residents.

BLESSED BUS STOP

The blessing of the bus stop was intended to be a way of giving thanks for the lack of serious injury and to keep all who use it safe in the future. It was also a positive way for Avon Valley Churches to help Breamore village, and the couple, find closure after the frightening ordeal from a few years ago. The opening was also celebrated with a ribbon cutting by Lynne Aggas, Chairman to Breamore Parish Council.

A MESSAGE OF THANKS

In his blessing of the new Breamore Bus Shelter, Canon Gary said:

"Lord God, we give thanks for your protection each day. You are a hiding place, and under your wings we can find refuge. We give thanks for the safety of Gaynor and Paul on that morning in December 2018, and for the friendship, generosity and hospitality they received from so many. We give thanks for the survival of the Brakes driver and pray for him wherever he now is. We pray, Father, that you would protect us from trouble wherever we go and keep evil far from us. No matter where we are, we look to you as our protector, in whom we find shelter every day. Bless, we pray, this bus stop, that all who use it for travel, for rest, for shelter, or for any other good purpose, may find your presence here and know your peace, in the Name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN."
