'People in The Park' event to celebrate Salisbury
Socially-distanced community gathering in the city on Saturday (12 Sept)
Here's an idea to help lift those lockdown blues, thanks to members of 'Salisbury Transition City' who've organised a free (socially-distanced) community event today (Saturday September 12th.)
FREE FACE MASKS
It's being staged in Queen Elizabeth Gardens.
'People in The Park' will run from 11am through to 4pm. There will be children's entertainment.
It'll have live music.
Events include talks from a wide range of community, sustainability and environmental groups.
There will also be a free mask giveaway from the guys at Community Mask Trees.
This event replaces and refreshes STC's usual Sustainable Salisbury event, which sadly had to be cancelled earlier in the year.
The event's organisers have said they hope that:
"People in the Park will provide a long-awaited opportunity for people to get together, catch up and share our visions of a brighter future for Salisbury."
"There will be music, entertainment and community activities all day all performed on our eco- friendly 'bicycle powered' stage.
"Alongside the music we will have a marquee showcasing "Visions of 2030" (an imagination exercise filmed with the people of Salisbury) heard through silent disco headsets."
VISION OF THE FUTURE
The event will also present an opportunity for STC to introduce their creative visioning exercise for the city - 'Salisbury 2030'.
This initiative has been developed in consultation with the founder of the transition movement, Rob Hopkins, Wiltshire Creative and other local voices.
The vision will continue to be developed through a series of imagination-based community workshops over the coming months. Around the event there will be plenty of stalls from community groups and independent retailers.
The event is being supported by Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Creative.
