Speeding and dangerous drivers have been in the spotlight once again on the B3078 Roger Penny Way across the New Forest.

Police had an early start yesterday (Mon 3rd Dec) and spent four hours working on their 5th 'Op Mountie' session.

Alongside Forestry England, the National Park Authority and the New Forest Roads Awareness Team they focused on the deadly B3078 Roger Penny Way which snakes its way across the open Forest between Fordingbridge and Bramshaw before popping out at Cadnam.

The New Forest has a strict mandatory 40mph speed limit because of the dangers posed by cars to the free roaming ponies, donkeys, and other livestock. Officers were aiming to slow down traffic and reduce animal deaths through a mixture of enforcement and education.

Animals are at huge risk of death from traffic in the New Forest

They seized two uninsured cars, gave one driver a ticket for having an invalid licence, issued three tickets for excessive speed and eleven drivers received educational advice about why it’s important to slow down, especially across the New Forest.

They've thanked all those drivers who did stay under 40mph.
