Salisbury women asked to recycle bras for others in Africa

The city's Soroptimists are holding their annual collection again

Women in Salisbury are asked to have a root around at the back of the underwear drawer, and recycle any bras that aren't needed anymore.

The Salisbury Soroptimists group are holding their annual bra collection once again from today (Wednesday 1st May).

They're asking us to give up 'gently used' pieces of any size which will then be sent to African countries by the Afreebra charity.

Volunteers sort through the donated bras and bag them up to be sent to African women

The underwear's given to females that wouldn't otherwise be able to afford them, to improve their confidence and self-esteem.

Women are giving incentives to get hold of the donations and benefit the rest of their community too - such as bringing a child to a literacy session.

2023 saw a record number of bras handed in to help

Last year's appeal saw a record number of bras donated by South Wiltshire women, with over 3,700 sent away.

Collection of the bras will be ongoing until the end of June.

We can hand them in at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, or at 60 Endless Street.

We can pop the unwanted bras into the buckets in Salisbury for collection

Pick-ups of local collections can also be arranged by emailing sarumsoropts@gmail.com
