City tradition continues today with opening of Charter Fair

Salisbury’s Charter Fair is taking over the city's Market Place and Guildhall Square this afternoon (Sunday 15th October).

Every year, thousands of visitors are brought to the city to enjoy the rides, stalls and attractions.

The Charter was first granted to the city seven years after the building of Salisbury Cathedral in 1227 by King Henry III, allowing the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October.

This year's fair will open from 2.00pm-9.00pm on Sunday 15th October.

It'll then be open from 11.00am to 10.00pm, from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th.

That means there'll be no market on Tuesday 17th.

And there’s a new ride this year, called Oxygen, for those thrill seekers among us.

The Charter Fair will be opened by Mayor of Salisbury Atiqul Hoque.
