Volunteers are needed to help carry The Salisbury Giant puppet through the city's streets for a number of events this spring

Christopher, as he's called, dates back more than 500 years and stands 12ft tall.

People in the city are being called on to step up and make sure he, and companion Hob-Nob, can attend things like the St George's Day celebrations.

Helpers - or to give them their proper name, whifflers - are needed for the following events:

  • Sunday 28th April 2024 - St George’s Day – procession from The Guildhall to St Thomas’s Church (and return), and then take part in the St George’s Day festivities
  • Saturday 11th May 2024 - Mayor-Making – procession from The Guildhall to St Thomas’s Church (and return)
  • Saturday 11th May 2024 – After Mayor-Making - Sarum Morris’s Day of Dance in the centre of the City and in the Cathedral Close
  • Thursday 23rd May 2024 - Patch’s Parade – the opening event at Salisbury International Arts Festival

There's also a need for help the day before each event, to get the puppets to and from their new home at Salisbury Arts Centre.
