Staff at Salisbury District Hospital's emergency department are being offered body cameras to wear.

The NHS trust has purchased five devices following an increase in abusive behaviour from patients

In a statement Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust stressed it takes a zero tolerance approach to any sort of abuse

"Salisbury Hospital has recently introduced body worn cameras for staff working in our Emergency Department. The cameras are primarily designed to act as a deterrent to help prevent abusive behaviour but they will also gather evidence of any incident. This evidence may then be used to support further action.

While all staff are very aware of the stress that people can feel when visiting the hospital verbal and physical abuse in any department is unacceptable and the hospital operates a zero tolerance policy."

Dr Rachel Oaten has welcomed the move;
