The Salisbury International Arts Festival will makes its return today (Friday 27th May) for its 47th edition, after an enforced two year break.

It'll run until the 18th June with events right across Salisbury and South Wiltshire.

The theme for this year's event is island living - whether that's embracing the UK as an island and taking us on a journey to exotic holiday destinations.

Lucy Babb, Festival Producer, said the Festival will be bigger and better than before:

“After a two-year hiatus we can’t wait to bring together communities to share in the wonder of the arts once again. 2022 will see the return of the Salisbury International Arts Festival back to the venues, churches, countryside and streets of Wiltshire.”

The Salisbury International Arts Festival is described as the 'jewel in the crown' for the city's arts collective - Wiltshire Creative.

We're promised 'a daring, diverse, and highly entertaining feast of music, theatre, film, dance, spoken word, visual arts, family and free events' across multiple venues throughout the city.

Gareth Machin, Artistic Director of Wiltshire Creative, said:

“Fascination, fear and love of islands has long fired our collective imagination. After 300 years we are still reading Robinson Crusoe and, after 75 years and over 2,000 episodes, Desert Island Discs is still going strong.

"However, our interest in islands runs much deeper than their dramatic potential. In our highly connected world, we are increasingly craving the isolation and tranquillity that islands can offer. Even with modern amenities, islands consistently draw us in as holiday locations and meccas of fun and leisure.”

Across the Festival, we can expect lots of street theatre in Salisbury, to coincide with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend.

A Bemerton Beach Party is planned for 28th May, with a Tidworth Family Fiesta on 31st May and a Treasure Hunt on 12th June. Events will also be held for families across the May half term holiday.

Tickets for the paid events at the Salisbury International Arts Festival are available through the Wiltshire Creative website.
