Salisbury's branch of clothing chain Matalan is to close its doors.

The Southampton Road have confirmed that they'll be shutting in mid-June, after many years in the city.

No specific reason's been given for the closure, but the retailer say they 'continuously evaluate their store estate'.

Once the Salisbury branch closes, the next nearest will be in Eastleigh or Southampton.

In a statement, a Matalan spokesperson said:

“We have chosen to close our Salisbury store in mid-June. Our priority is to support our colleagues and we are working closely with all those affected and where possible offering them alternative positions within our store estate.

"We continuously evaluate our store estate on a case-by-case basis to ensure that we have the optimal mix as an omnichannel retailer. This involves exploring new openings – and we currently have five in the pipeline – investing in our existing network of stores, and as on this occasion, select closures.

"Our full range of products remain available via the Matalan website and app, and in our network of stores across the South East. We would like to thank all our customers for shopping with us during our time in Salisbury.”
