The team at Salisbury District Hospital say they're under 'intense pressure' and 'full to capacity'.

They've said much of the problem is being caused by a 'significant' number of patients waiting to be discharged home or to alternative care packages.

We're being asked to help alleviate pressure by picking up friends or relatives that are ready to be discharged quickly.

They have confirmed they've moved into Opel level 4, the highest level of alert.

Chief Executive of the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Stacey Hunter said:

“We would like to ask for the community to support us as we work to alleviate the pressure and improve the flow of patients through the hospital. If people have a family member waiting to be discharged please try to respond quickly to calls about their ongoing care at home or in another setting."

There's also a plea for use to think twice about using hospital services, unless it's really necessary.

CEO Stacey Hunter said:

"Please don’t attend the hospital site unless critical, and if attending A&E for emergency care please be patient as staff will prioritise those most in need of urgent or critical care.

"The hospital is open. Please do attend all appointments as normal unless directly contacted by the hospital.”
