A shooter for Team GB, who lives in Salisbury, has won bronze at the Olympic Games.

Chelmsford-born Matthew Coward-Holley was on the podium after the men's trap shooting final this morning (Thursday 29th July).

Matthew lives in Dinton with his partner Augusta Rose Campos-Martyn, who is also a shooter.

His journey to the Olympics has not been a straight forward one.

Matthew took part in the final this morning

The 26 year old had ambitions of being a professional rugby player, but his dream ended when he broke his back twice as teenager.

After giving up shooting at the age of 12, he restarted at the age of 16 to pursue a new dream.

Ahead of the final, Campos-Martyn said they have been working hard to get to this point:

"Matthew has kept up his training and made the best of the situation.

"We have both kept up our training at home, becoming our own little training squad, whilst having Zoom calls with our coach in Italy.

"He is an immensely driven athlete. He is never content, constantly striving for perfection, and more success.

"But he is also incredibly modest and down-to-earth. When he's not training himself he is helping out other young athletes that are coming up through the sport."

Both Matthew and Augusta have their sights set on Paris in 2024, but would be competing for different nations if they make it, as Augusta would be representing Puerto Rico.

Congratulations Matthew!
