More strike action to affect trains through Salisbury
South Western Railway says services will change next Tuesday (30th January)
Train services through Salisbury station are set for disruption once again next week, due to ongoing strike action by the ASLEF union.
An overtime ban's been announced by train drivers who are members of the union from Monday 29th January, with a full walkout on Tuesday (30th January).
That means there'll be a 'severely reduced services on a limited number of SWR routes.
Passengers will only be able to get from Salisbury to Basingstoke, with a change needed to get further towards London Waterloo.
No services will run west of Salisbury at all.
Trains will also only run between 7.00am and 7.00pm on that day.
Customers are advised to only travel if absolutely necessary and to avoid the first and last trains of the day, which are likely to be extremely busy.
The action short of a strike, meaning a ban on overtime working, will continue through until Tuesday 6th February.
Stuart Meek, South Western Railway’s Chief Operating Officer, said:
“We’re very sorry to announce that industrial action, including full strike action, will affect our network at the end of January and into early February.
“It has been a tough start to the year due to adverse weather conditions and these damaging strikes will cause yet more disruption for our customers.
“Our advice is to only travel if absolutely necessary on Tuesday 30th January and to check before travelling on all other affected dates. It is also vital that customers check their entire journey on all the affected dates, as other operators will be affected.
“Once again we’re very sorry for the disruption this will cause and we thank our customers for their continued patience.”
