A 74-year-old vintage steam train is coming to Salisbury today.

The No. 7029 Clun Castle will roll into Salisbury Station at around 11:30am as part of an express run from Birmingham to Salisbury.

The Castle Class locomotive originally ran during Great Western Railway's golden age and was recovered from scrap in 2017, allowing it to return to the mainline in February 2019.

The train is currently in the ownership of charity Vintage Trains.

During it's time in service, Clun Castle broke record for the fastest timed point-to-point journey from Plymouth to Bristol in 1964 and was also the last steam train to depart London's Paddington station.

And in 1992, it became the first steam-powered locomotive to travel to Cornwall since regular steam train services ended in the 1960s.

The train is expected to arrive at Platform 4 in Salisbury at 11:30am, departing from Platform 3 at 3:05pm.
