Amber wildfire alert in New Forest
Fears a repeat of the recent fires seen in neighbouring Dorset
The New Forest, Forestry England, has issued a warning placing The New Forest on AMBER alert for wildfires.
They've also issued a reminder saying that we can ALL help to reduce the risk of sparking a devastating blaze by taking simple precautions:
* Remember that BBQs or fires of any kind are not allowed
* Ensure that cigarettes are completely extinguished
* Take all litter home after your visit
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have reiterated that message too:
Only a week ago Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service placed their two counties under the same Amber Wildfire Alert.
Barely two days afterwards fire crews from Dorset & Wiltshire, as well as firefighters from Hampshire were called to tackle a heath blaze in Dorset. More than 60 firefighters were called to a fire White Sheet Plantation on Monday afternoon (5 April 2021).
