Wiltshire's Air Ambulance has been subjected to a potentially dangerous laser attack.

Laser attacks can affect the crew's eyesight, with the latest incident happening near Trowbridge just after 9.00pm last night (Sunday 10th December).

The pilot of the helicopter managed to land safely, after the 'very bright green' laser was shone towards the aircraft.

This was as the crew were taking part in a training mission, as the aircraft has been out of action for servicing and repairs in recent weeks.

Chief pilot Matt Wilcock said:

“This incident happened while we were undertaking a training flight, but had we been responding to a medical emergency then we would not have been able to land and give critical care.

“Shining a laser at an aircraft is dangerous and irresponsible. It can seriously damage the eyes of those on board, which in turn could place the entire aircraft at risk with potentially catastrophic effects.”

It is the second laser attack to impact on our aircraft this year, the other very similar incident occurred in August.

Shining a laser at an aircraft is a criminal offence, carrying an unlimited fine and up to five years in prison.

Wiltshire Police is now investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 54230131125.
