Thanks to the generosity of residents and businesses across Wiltshire, around 1,000 old devices like laptops were donated to be given out to members of the community who need them most.

Wiltshire Digital Drive held their first #DonateYourDigital day on the 7th January to encourage anyone who may have got new stuff for Christmas or just had gadgets lying around the house to hand in their old stuff.

The company could then repurpose any useable old tech and give it to someone who may need it like schools, organisations and charities.

Home improvement company Kingfisher pledged 800 laptops.

Holbrook Primary School in Trowbridge is one of the organisations supported by WDD.

Rosie Nunn, Deputy Head Teacher, said:

“It is hard to express the impact Wiltshire Digital Drive has had at Holbrook Primary School. They helped us to provide devices to our most vulnerable children at the earliest possible opportunity in the first lockdown and have continued to support us in ensuring every Holbrook pupil has access to an appropriate device at home.

“During periods of remote learning, our teachers were able to provide high quality online learning for children feeling confident that every child could access it. As a result, we found we had very good engagement with remote learning from Holbrook families which has had huge, long-lasting benefits for children on their return to school.”

Natalie Sherman, Co-Director of Wiltshire Digital Drive, told Greatest Hits Radio:

"I'm super super proud of how many laptops we received in the pledges that we had from corporates on that day as well. It's fantastic. It really did exceed my expectations and I knew that we generated so many donations this time last year I kind of thought we'd wiped everybody's cupboards out, but I'm really pleased that we managed to drive that much impact."

The company are planning on doing more #DonateYourDigital days in the future.
