The rules around donating your organs when you die changed in May this year.

It's now assumed that we consent to it unless we specifically opt-out, we're part of an excluded group, or our family deny the transplant based on our wishes.

This week is Organ Donation Week (7th to 13th September), so NHS Blood and Transplant is encouraging us to talk about what we'd like to happen with our loved ones.

The alw around organ donation changed last May

Last year, there were 37 people in Wiltshire whose lives were saved thanks to an organ donation.

79 people in Hampshire also benefitted from a transplant.

But there are still many more on waiting lists.

Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ Donation and Transplantation for NHS Blood and Transplant said:

"We need more people in Wiltshire to talk about organ donation to increase the number of lifesaving transplants.

"Even now the law has changed, families will still be approached before organ donation goes ahead. So it remains so important to talk to your families and make sure they know what you want to happen.

"Register your organ donation decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register and tell your family the choice you have made. If the time comes, we know families find the organ donation conversation with nurses or medical teams much easier if they already know what their relative wanted."

HOW TO SIGN UP

If you'd like to register your donation officially, you can do so on the NHS Organ Donation Register website.
