A woman has died following a two vehicle collision on the A303 past Stonehenge earlier today (Tuesday 23rd January).

A lorry and a car were involved in a crash just after 10.00am.

The female driver of the car, who's in her 60s and from Bath, died at the scene.

The HGV driver was uninjured.

Wiltshire Police and National Highways have closed the road in both directions, between the Longbarrow and Countess roundabouts, while investigations are carried out.

The closure's likely to remain in place beyond the afternoon and evening peak for traffic.

Diversion routes are in place during the closure - with eastbound traffic asked to use the A360 towards Larkhill, go along the Packway and onto the A345 to rejoin the A303 at Countess.

Westbound traffic can use the same route in reverse.

National Highways is advising drivers to plan ahead and to consider alternative routes where possible for the rest of today.

There's an appeal for any witnesses to come forward with any information by calling Wiltshire Police on 101 or emailing SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk
