Lionel Richie, singer of hits including "Hello", "All Night Long" and "Dancing on the Ceiling", will perform in Somerset next summer.

The Grammy award winner will take to the stage at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton, the venue has announced, on Sunday 11 June, 2023.

It will be the venue's first major concert since 2014, with the chief executive of Somerset County Cricket Club, which owns the ground, saying they're "delighted".

"It provides the Club with an opportunity to showcase not only what the Cooper Associates County Ground is capable of, but also what the South-West region has to offer," Gordon Hollins said.

"The event will bring people from all over the country to Taunton and will no doubt benefit businesses here with a welcome boost after three challenging years.”

Ollie Rosenblatt of promoters Senbla said: “In what has been a tumultuous time in the UK over the last few years, we are so excited to be bringing back the incomparable and brilliant Lionel Richie to the UK and present him at the wonderful Somerset County Cricket Club.

"This is without doubt going to be an amazing night full of fun, bringing a smile to many.

"Something I think we could all do with."

To date Richie has sold more than 125 million albums worldwide and has own an Oscar and a Goldon Globe as well as four Grammys.

Earlier this year he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and also received the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the American Library of Congress, becoming only the 12th person to ever receive the award.

Richie’s further mega-hits such as ‘Endless Love’, ‘Lady’, ‘Truly’, ‘Penny Lover’, ‘Stuck on You’, ‘Say You, Say Me’, as well as his hits with The Commodores including ‘Three Times a Lady’, ‘Still’, and ‘Easy’, have seen him become one of music’s best-loved and most iconic stars.

Tickets will go on general sale this Friday (November 4) at 10am, but fans can already register for priority access, which would allow you to purchase tickets from 6pm this Wednesday (November 2).

Hospitality packages and early access for Somerset County Cricket Club members are also available.
