Woman killed in suspected Frome drink drive crash

A man in his 50s has been arrested

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward

A young woman has been killed in a suspected drink driving incident near Frome, in Somerset.

Avon and Somerset (AS) Police say two cars collided on the A361 near the town at around 11pm last night (8 April).

The woman in her 20s was driving a VW Golf when she was hit by a silver Mercedes and died at the scene.

A man in his 50s who was driving the other car has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving as well as drink driving and drug driving.

He was taken into custody after a medical assessment at the scene.

In a statement AS Police say the woman has not yet been formally identified, but her next of kin have been told and are being supported.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area or any information on what happened, to call 101 and quote the reference number 5224089811.
