Around 40 firefighters were needed to tackle a house fire in Bournemouth last night.

Crews were called to Gresham Road in Charminster.

The fire was in the first floor and roof of the property.

People living in the area were asked to keep their doors and windows closed due to the smoke.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:

"Ten breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets and three main jets to tackle the fire. The roof was stripped of tiles to ensure all hot spots were dealt with.

"Volunteers from the British Red Cross emergency response team, based at Springbourne Fire Station, attended to support the property’s occupants.

"We left the scene just before midnight.

"No injuries were reported, and a fire investigation is underway."
