British yacht Maiden crosses finish line off Cowes after 27,000-mile race

Hamble-based yacht Maiden has crossed the finish line off Cowes after completing the 27,000 mile Ocean Globe round-the-world yacht race.

The all-female crew set off from Southampton in September for the eight month challenge.

Described as a retro race for ordinary sailors, all 14 crews are not allowed to use GPS, satellites or computers.

The crew of Maiden are celebrating the end of the yacht's six-year world tour raising funds and awareness for girls' education.

Maiden will be given an official welcome home with a parade of sail starting off Cowes from 8.00am on Saturday.
