The Butlin's resort in Bognor will close to all visitors from Friday (December 18th).

It comes just seven days after the holiday site started to welcome visitors again, after being closed due to the second national lockdown in England.

The closure will last until the end of 2020.

A Butlin's spokesperson said the decision had been taken due to the number of areas moving into Tier 3 restrictions, which include Portsmouth, Havant and much of Surrey.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Butlin's said:

“Due to the number of areas moving into tier 3 and to continue to keep our guests and team safe by following the latest government guidance of limiting contact and avoiding unnecessary journeys, we’re sad to say that we’ll be closing our Bognor Regis and Minehead resorts from Friday, 18th December, for the remainder of 2020.

“We know this will be disappointing for you and your family, particularly during this time of year.

“We’ve worked hard over the past few months to be as flexible as possible following the change in government advice, whilst continuing to give our guests a memorable and fun break and keeping you and our team safe.”

It's the third time in all that the resort has closed in 2020.

It originally shut in March due to the first national lockdown, before re-opening with a reduced capacity in July.

The second closure began in November when England was put back into lockdown measures.

The company has said it will contact those who have booked Christmas breaks via email, text or letter to discuss their options.
