Police forces across the UK have stopped non-essential journeys, broken up parties and fined people for visiting beauty spots this weekend despite lockdown rules.

North Wales Police officers stopped a car from Portsmouth as the driver was travelling to pick up a front bumper on Saturday.

The force said: "Travelling nearly 300 miles for a piece of cosmetic plastic for your car is not essential at this time.

The journey from Portsmouth to Caerwys in Flintshire is around 270 miles, and takes around four and a half hours to drive.

Temporary assistant chief constable Nigel Harrison said: "It is not acceptable to pick and choose the law you follow and the laws you don't.

"The regulations have been broadcast far and wide. Please be mindful you will be reported if your journey is not essential.''

A Hampshire Police twitter account posted footage of Southsea seafront on Sunday afternoon.

Under coronavirus rules, you should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave to exercise or visit shops for essential items.

Exercise should be limited to once per day and you should not travel outside your local area.
