A police and fire service investigation will be held into the cause of a large fire at a derelict hotel on the Isle of Wight.

Emergency services were called to the former Parkbury Hotel on Broadway in Sandown shortly before 1.00am on Saturday.

Fire crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Ryde, Newport, Cowes and Ventnor worked through the night to bring the situation under control, the Island Echo reported.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters began to leave the scene following the stop message at 5.30am, fortunately there were no casualties.

"Police officers are providing a scene guard to allow for a joint fire and police investigation into the cause of the blaze."
