Man charged with intimidating witness by police investigating Gosport murder

Mark Phillips from the town is accused of perverting the course of justice

Officers investigating the death of 22-year-old Levi Kent in Gosport have charged a man with a further offence.

Police were called to Keyes Road in Bridgemary at 2.32am on Friday 24 November after Levi had been seriously assaulted in the area. He subsequently died from his injuries.

Mark Phillips, aged 56, of Gilbert Close in Gosport, was previously charged last month with perverting the course of justice as part of enquiries.

He has since been charged with a further offence of witness intimidation relating to incidents alleged to have taken place between 8 and 12 December 2023.

Phillips was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Saturday 6 January.

At the hearing, he was further remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 5 February.

Six other people have already been charged as part of our investigation.
