Public Health officials in Dorset have told Greatest Hits Radio as far as they are aware there are currently no cases of the South African variant here in Dorset.

But we're being warned it's a rapidly changing situation.

Covid-19 infection rates have fallen again in the county in the last week, but numbers aren't coming down quickly and still remain high.

Case rates in the Dorset Council area are now higher than the average for the South West.

Hospital admissions are said to have levelled off but we're still seeing outbreaks in care homes, which means Covid related deaths are continuing to rise.

A spokesperson for Public Health Dorset said:

"Thank you to residents who continue to do the right thing. The more we stay at home, the fewer chances the virus has to spread, meaning we can bring infection rates down further, reduce the pressure on our health and care system and save lives."
