Same day tip bookings now available on the Isle of Wight

Residents on the Isle of Wight will now be able to book 'same day' tip slots at either Lynnbottom or Afton Marsh household waste and recycling centre (HWRC) from today (Friday).
Locals can book one same day visit per day, up to two hours beforehand with the ability to amend or cancel their booking up to an hour before their visit.
Natasha Dix, the Isle of Wight Council's service director for waste, environment and planning, said: “You've asked, and we've listened.
“You will still be able to book in advance, but this extra change gives you the option of booking on the same day, if you prefer. This makes a more inclusive and flexible booking system that meets the needs of all our residents.”
More than 85 per cent of residents said they were happy with the HWRCs in this year's annual recycling and waste survey.
The majority of respondents were also either very satisfied or satisfied with the booking system.
The results did however show people were to keen to see the introduction of same day bookings.
The requirement to book a slot ahead of visiting an HWRC began in May 2020 as a response to a gradual reopening of the HWRCs during the COVID pandemic. It has since been made permanent.
Natasha added: “The booking system has improved traffic management at the HWRCs, with health and safety benefits to the public and staff, as site access is now better managed.
“It has also improved traffic flows, particularly on the slip road leading to the Lynnbottom site. We listened to what residents told us in the annual survey and we responded.
"I hope that residents will enjoy the extra benefit of being able to make a same day booking to the recycling centres.”
