Eastleigh Library is to be temporarily closed as the building has been judged not to be fit for purpose after years of not being upgraded.

Urgent refurbishments will include the children’s area being redecorated and upgraded, changes to the workroom, and an adjustment to the layout of the adult library.

The layout of the Swan Centre library will also be reconfigured to create more space for children’s activities and to create more space for adult groups and events.

Hampshire County Council said the library has not had a major review of its layout for many years and no longer meets current and future demands of library users.

During the closure, visitors are told to visit Chandler's Ford, Hedge End, Bishop's Waltham and Winchester libraries.

Eastleigh Library will be closed for general visitors from 7 -12 March.
