Vandals damage newly installed bike repair stations in Portsmouth

A total of four bike repair stations have already been removed in Portsmouth after just four months due to vandalism – with a fifth reported as damaged.

The city council has confirmed the stations equipped with basic tools and a pump have been taken away with five remaining.

They were installed in July for the use of cyclists, wheelchair and pram users.

A council spokeswoman said: ‘Regrettably the cycle repair stations formerly at Fratton Bridge, Albert Road, Eastney Esplanade/Henderson Road and Eastern Road have been removed due to damage sustained.’

Since then a resident has reported damage to the station near Clarence Pier in Southsea.

The spokeswoman added: ‘We weren’t aware of the issues with this repair station but we will assess the damage once lockdown restrictions allow.’

Repair stands can be found in Hampshire Terrace (near Mercantile House, Broad Street (near The Point), Devonshire Square​​​​​​​ and South Parade.
