Vandals have disrupted travel for key workers in part of Southampton by attacking buses.

Stones were thrown at four Bluestar vehicles in Millbrook on Thursday evening, smashing windows and causing delays.

No one was injured, the company said.

Bluestar general manager, Richard Tyldsley, said: "This is utterly disgraceful behaviour.

"Four of our buses, all of which were carrying key workers, were attacked on Thursday, causing damage and delays to our services.

"I urge parents in the area to ask their children where they were last night, and what they were doing.

"This is a particularly challenging time for us all and there is no excuse for this kind of behaviour.

"These criminal acts have disrupted travel for those carrying out vital work on behalf of our community and we are now looking to identify the perpetrators.

"Our fleet is equipped with CCTV and we are sharing information with police, and will be asking them to take appropriate action.

"Despite these attacks, we are determined to ensure key workers can still travel, so our team is continuing to serve Millbrook.

"We want people to understand that we will not tolerate this mindless vandalism and will always look to prosecute those responsible."

The incidents occurred on Thursday 7 January, between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
