Portsmouth's Victorious Festival generated £15.5 million for the city's economy last year, according to a new report.

The figures for the three-day event on Southsea Common in 2021 are around £2 million higher than what was recorded in 2019.

An independent report has found that restaurants, shops, hotels, and other local attractions have all benefited from visitors spending time in the city outside of event hours.

More than 73,000 individual attendees went to the event last year, according to the data, with 73% coming from outside of the city of Portsmouth. Over 40% of those stated they would return to the city in future.

There's already indication that this year's event will also prove popular, with Google searches for Southsea increasing by 27% in the days after the announcement for acts for this summer's event.

Festival Director, James Ralls said;

“We’re proud to be a part of Portsmouth community and are delighted to have been able to make a significant contribution to the local economy especially in light of the additional challenges and costs the pandemic incurred.

"It was so great to be able to put on an event last year and see customers enjoying all the things we love about Victorious Festival: the opportunity to get together and experience live music while dancing and singing with our loved ones.

"We are busy working on next year’s event and remain confident next year’s results will see even more benefits for the city. We can’t wait for Summer and look forward to welcoming festival go-ers from Portsmouth and beyond."

The 2022 event takes place between August 26th and 28th, featuring artists including Stereophonics, Paolo Nutini, Sam Fender, Bastille and Anne-Marie, along with comedy performers Katherine Ryan, Rosie Jones, Joel Dommett and Milton Jones.
