In new plans by the Welsh government, digital vaccination records and simplified booking systems have been set to increase the take-up of vaccines across Wales.

Health Minister Eluned Morgan will today publish these plans and hopes to continue the success of the Covid-19 vaccination rollout and help improve the availability of vaccinations.

The National Immunisation Framework for Wales will lay out a series of changes to make it easier for people across Wales to know which vaccines they are eligible for and how to receive them.

This includes changes such as a simplified booking system as well as multiple vaccines being given in the same appointment. For example, this means someone could get their Flu jab at the same time as their Covid Booster, so long as they are eligible. It is then hoped this will encourage a higher uptake of seasonal vaccines like these, to reduce strain on NHS services during winter times.

Health Minister Eluned Morgan says “We want as many people as possible to come forward for their vaccinations – from the routine childhood vaccines to the free NHS winter flu jab. Vaccines save lives and help to keep us all safe.

“But to do this we need to make sure vaccines are easily available. People’s response to the Covid-19 vaccination programme has been phenomenal, showing a real collective effort to keep Wales safe.

“This ambitious National Immunisation Framework builds on the success of that programme and applies it to all our other vaccine programmes. It will help to transform the way vaccinations are provided in Wales.”

The World Health Organisation predicts that vaccination prevents up to three million deaths worldwide each year.
