Swansea student calls for crackdown on image alterations

A South Wales student is calling on the UK Government to force advertisers to declare whether or not images of people have been altered.

Lara Philipart, who is researching the issue for a Master's in Public Health at Swansea University, has set up a petition.

It calls for ministers to "require adverts to state when a person's features have been enhanced or distorted."

Lara told us: "I set up the petition in order to get adverts - and if we can get it to celebrities and influencers with really high followings - they must declare if they are distorting or changing the way they look in these photos.

"People are so caught up in how they look and the importance of that, and caring what people think, it's actually contributing to a lower quality of life.

"People are spending that much time thinking about how people consume how they look, rather than actually focusing on what they're doing."
