Northern has issued a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning to people planning to travel on its rail services tomorrow in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside.

They are urging rail users to stay inside and keep cool amid soaring temperatures and weather warnings.

Tomorrow is predicted to be even hotter than today, with temperatures potentially reaching record-breaking heights of 40 Celsius.

Trains across most of England and Wales are already under speed restrictions to reduce the chance tracks buckling in the heat.

Tony Baxter, regional director for Northern, said: “We don’t issue ‘Do Not Travel’ notices lightly, but given the guidance published by government and expected disruption caused by extreme temperatures, we feel this is the safest advice for our customers.

“There will be blanket speed reductions in place and a limited timetable in operation throughout the region.”

They are advising people who do travel to carry water, wait in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat.

Network Rail have already closed the East Coast Main Line (ECML) between 12pm and 8pm tomorrow due to extreme heat.
