WATCH: Chester Zoo shares video of Giraffe birth

A rare baby giraffe has been born at Chester Zoo, already standing at 6 feet tall!

The calf is just one of 2,500 Rothschild's Giraffes on the planet and was born to mum Orla, weighing 70 kilograms.

Mum and calf are doing well, although keepers don't know yet whether it's a boy or a girl.

The Rothschild giraffe has declined by 90 percent in the wild in recent years, because of poaching and a loss of natural habitat.

With previous Giraffe births, the zoo has explained how they 'give birth standing up and so their young receive quite a welcome to the world, dropping around six feet to the ground. Although this seems like a long way, the fall actually breaks the umbilical cord and helps to stimulate the calf’s first breath – it’s a dramatic entry but it’s just how they do it!'
