Officers gave out £800 in fines to the people in vehicle saying they had "no legitimate reason to be here other than going to McDonalds!".

The group were stopped by police on the A50 and all four of the occupants were from different households.

The force put this tweet out about the incident this morning:

The current national lockdown means people must stay at home unless they're shopping for essentials, exercise, seeking medical attention or going to school.

382 fines were given out for breaches of COVID rules last year by Staffordshire police.

The force said "People should stay at home unless necessary".
