Baby white rhino born at Suffolk wildlife park named 'Zawadi'

The calf was born in mid-December but now finally has a name

A baby white Rhino born at Africa Alive near Lowestoft has been named 'Zawadi'.

It means 'gift' in Swahili. Staff at the park ran a competition to pick a name after the calf was born on December 18 to mum Njiri.

The male calf has since been spotted running around the park's 'Plains of Africa' enclosure.

He's the first southern white rhino calf to be born at the Suffolk park.

Southern white rhinos usually live in Southern Africa. It was once hunted to the point of near extinction, but populations in the wild have recovered to around 18,000/

Female white rhinos can weight up to 1.700kg, males 2,300kg. Each can grow to between 3 and 4 metres in length.
