From today, anyone over the age of 18 in England who received their second Covid-19 vaccine shot more than three months ago can book their booster jab on the NHS website.

Although there are concerns over the effectiveness of current vaccines against the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 vaccine, there is consensus that a booster shot will offer a greater degree of protection from adverse illness than otherwise.

It is for this reason that the Government has set itself a target of providing everyone eligible with a booster jab by the end of the month.

We spoke to Waveney MP Peter Aldous who is encouraging people in Suffolk to get their booster shots as quickly as possible: "What the NHS have been asked to do now is a herculean task. So book an appointment as quickly as you can.

"Be patient if their systems don't quite work at the first instance. Do this and we our giving ourselves the best chance of avoiding another lockdown."

He is also urging those people who are hesitant or reluctant to get the vaccine, to speak with their GPs or members of their local vaccination sites.

"I can understand that people have apprehensions and have concerns. Go and talk this through with GPs or people administering these vaccines.

"This is the most sensible and appropriate course to pursue."

A number of walk-in sites are also available in some areas of Suffolk.

It's worth checking your CCG website to see the latest on opening times and availability.
