An Elmswell man has been sentenced after admitting to online child sex offences.

50 year old Matthew Coombs, of Wetherden Road, admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child at Ipswich Crown Court.

Between February 10th and 20th 2020 he communicated online with someone he thought was a 14 year old boy, sending an explicit image.

He was handed a two year community order, a 35 day rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours unpaid work.

Coombs will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years, and will be made to sign the sex offenders' register.

PC Luke Swain of Suffolk Constabulary’s West CID team said: “Matthew Coombs knowingly engaged in sexual communications with someone he thought was a 14-year-old child.

“Police, alongside other organisations, actively work to locate and prosecute those responsible for such deplorable activities.

“We take allegations of online predatory behaviour extremely seriously and work to safeguard victims as quickly as possible.

"We will do everything in our power to bring offenders to justice.”
