In a video posted on his Twitter account, the MP for Ipswich puts pressure on Highways England to deliver on their promises of a 40mph speed limit during windy periods.

He said: "Orwell Bridge closures are an absolute nightmare and for too long we've all had to put up with the chaos that happens when that bridge closes when it's windy.

"When I was elected I said that one of my main priorities was to sort the situation out."

He explained that soon after being elected he spoke to Highways England, who said they would introduce the reduced speed limit by wintery months this year.

Mr Hunt continued in the video with the bridge in the distance: "Well it seems pretty wintery, windy and rainy right now, and as far as I'm concerned it's just not good enough that it's not already in place."

He'll be meeting with the Roads Minister next week to challenge the current situation.

In response to the video, a spokesperson for Highways England said: "We are currently working on a scheme to introduce a 40mph speed limit which would be activated in high winds, and would enable Orwell Bridge to potentially stay open in higher winds.

"However, safety is our top priority and there are a number of technical challenges which need to be overcome before the scheme can be fully implemented.

"We are looking forward to working with Mr Hunt on bringing forward a suitable solution at the earliest opportunity which will benefit the people of Ipswich."
