Police investigating a fatal stabbing in Ipswich are now able to name the victim and release the post-mortem results.

The incident occurred at approximately 3.35pm on Tuesday 17 January in Westgate Street.

An 18-year-old man was approached by two other males and stabbed, with the suspects then heading off in different directions. One went towards the Cornhill and the other in the direction of Providence Street.

Police units and ambulance crews were quickly in attendance but despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the victim sadly died at the scene.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased has been identified as Raymond James Quigley – known as James – from Wymondham in Norfolk.

A Home Office post-mortem examination was conducted yesterday, Thursday 19 January, and concluded that James sustained four stab wounds to the torso and died as a result of these injuries.

Efforts to identify and locate the suspects have been ongoing since Tuesday afternoon, with officers conducting numerous enquiries, including forensic work, searches and CCTV analysis.

Three Section 60 Authorities have been implemented on successive days since the attack, the most recent being at 5:45pm yesterday for another 24-hours period.
