The University of Suffolk has today been announced as the Official University Partner for Ipswich Town Football Club.

The new partnership will see the two institutions work together, sharing ideas and a commitment to champion pride in the county.

The partnership will last for an initial three-and-a-half year period.

During this time, students studying in Suffolk will get opportunities to undergo placements at Portman Road in order to gain experience in professional football and expand their skillsets.

There will also be university branding inside Portman Road, to promote the University to visitors and supporters of the Club.

"Both the Football Club and University share many of the same values"

Ipswich Town CEO, Mark Ashton, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the University of Suffolk.

“Both the Football Club and University share many of the same values and both take great pride in showcasing the best of our county to the wider world, which we both believe to be a vital part of our roles within our community.”

Professor Gurpreet Jagpal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of Suffolk said: “The University has a central role to play in building the success and community of Ipswich and Suffolk and we are proud to support our county’s leading football club.

“Our work with businesses is key to the area’s economic success and our partnership with the football club will also provide opportunities for our students.”

"It's great we can work together in promoting Ipswich"

Katie Pickard, Students’ Union President of Activities and Wellbeing, said: “It is so incredibly important for the University and local businesses to collaborate to ensure the success of not only the University but of the town as a whole!

“The University and the football club are massive selling points of Ipswich and it’s great we can work together in promoting Ipswich!

“Not only will this partnership be beneficial for current students and staff, it’s a great selling point to attract future students as well. The fact our students will get to work with Ipswich Town FC for their placements is an incredible opportunity.”
