Highways England says speed restrictions of 40mph are going to be in force on the Orwell Bridge in Suffolk until 2pm today.

It's due to the high winds forecast, with gusts of over 40mph forecast in Ipswich.

Restrictions were also introduced on the bridge overnight due to a yellow weather warning for wind from the Met Office, which expired at 9am today.

Previously, the bridge had to be closed during periods of high winds which often caused severe delays and traffic disruption.

But work completed recently allows for speed limits to be reduced remotely so that the bridge can stay open in higher winds, reducing the number of times a year it has to be closed.
