St Edmundsbury Cathedral to host a County Service of Commemoration for the late Queen
The event will start at 11:30 on Saturday and include prayers and music.
A County Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving is to be held at St Edmundsbury Cathedral dedicated to remembering the life Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The service will begin at 11.30 am on Saturday (17th) and include prayers and music for invited guests and members of the public.
HM Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Clare, Countess of Euston will lay a wreath of English roses in memory of the Queen during the service.
The Rt Revd Martin Seeley, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, will lead the service, he said:
“Her Majesty The Queen has given unparalleled service to our nation, commonwealth and church.
“This service of commemoration and thanksgiving is an opportunity to express our grief and sadness, as well as acknowledge with gratitude, her many years of devoted service.
“Representatives from a wide range of organisations from across Suffolk will be present, reflecting the huge impact Her Majesty made on so many aspects of our lives.”
The Very Revd Joe Hawes, Dean of St Edmundsbury, said:
“The past days have been filled with a sense of thankfulness and reflection for a life well lived.
“We mourn a sovereign who dedicated her life to selfless duty, service and faith. This service is a chance for the county of Suffolk to come together to pray and give thanks for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
In attendance at the service will be HM Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Clare, Countess of Euston, the High Sheriff of Suffolk, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton and interfaith representatives, civic, military and charitable organisations.
Queen Elizabeth II last visited St Edmundsbury Cathedral for the Office for the Royal Maundy on April 9, 2009.
