A survey conducted by education charity Teach First has found that teaching was considered as one of the most respected professions in the UK.

These results have been welcomed by teachers in Suffolk. Katy Mills is from Ipswich Academy. She believes teachers have shown immense dedication and taken risks during the pandemic to ensure that students got the best education possible.

"We have been students at the forefront of our decisions, and that's the same for teachers up and down the country. It's great that they're now getting the recognition that they deserve, because we really make a difference", she says.

Almost half of the population surveyed also felt that teachers aren't given enough credit for the work they do. A third of them also believe that teachers should be paid more as well as given more learning resources to help further the quality of education. These are sentiments that Ms Mills agrees with.

She explains, "The Government needs to pump more funding into education to continue to build on this as a respected career. Let's invest in new teachers through training routes like those from Teach First so that students in the future continue to get this great dedication and also so that teaching can continue to be seen as an attractive career path."
