Surrey Police say they believe a body found in the Thames in Surrey last weekend is that of a man who was seen jumping into the river in Chertsey in February.

A body was recovered at Weir Lock in Walton-on-Thames after police were called out at around 12:15pm on 27 February - and follows a wide-scale search back on 3 February, when emergency services were called to reports of a person in the river.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but police say it is believed to be the same man, and have notified his next of kin.

They went on to say that "our thoughts remain with his family, who are receiving support from officers, at this difficult time."

The death is currently being treated as unexplained - it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.
